These photographs were taken during the early years when the drought began in the Bay Area. Their sole purpose at that time that I made them were just personal records from the hikes we did as part of my journey towards healing my body. I didn’t think much of them for a few years until I came across a water conservation slogan this past spring called “Brown is the New Green.” Reading this made me pause and think about these photographs again so I unearthed them to present an interpretation of the slogan. Could these quiet photographs of parched landscapes basked in warm light provide some respite from the dire news and all the pressing issues surrounding the drought? I wonder.
